Saturday Night Fever
Saturday Night Fever
Music & Lyrics by The Bee Gees
Book by Nan Knighton, Arlene Phillips, Paul Nicholas, Robert Stigwood
Based on Nik Cohen's 1975 New York Magazine article, "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night" and 1977 film, Saturday Night Fever
Based on the 1977 blockbuster film, Saturday Night Fever whisks you back to the 1970's, where open shirts, bell-bottoms, and disco were all the rage. Tony Manero, a talented street-wise kid from Brooklyn, yearns of escaping his dead-end job and becoming a "disco king" at the local club. He meets a young lady who can help him achieve his dance dreams, but will she accept his advances and help him change his world? Packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees including: "Stayin Alive," "You Should Be Dancing," "How Deep Is Your Love," and many more, Saturday Night Fever sizzles with a compelling story and explosive dance.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER BACKSTAGE ACCESS COURSE
Course Dates: Meets Wednesdays 10:00am to 12noon (3/29, 4/5, & 4/12)
This course will look at John Badham’s famous 1977 film as the source material for the stage musical. Exploring the memorable images captured through the wardrobe of the period and the music of the Bee Gees, the class will celebrate platform shoes, polyester, and Brooklyn discotheques. We will also look at the trend involving the transition of popular movies to stage versions where someone at some point uttered the phrase “You know what would make a good musical -- … “. Along with our discussion of this particular play, this will also be an opportunity for the class to learn about the co-production between Riverside and Walnut Street and to hear from actors, directors, and designers about the challenges and possibilities that come from mounting a production in two different parts of the country.
